I originally had the name as BRACHFORD which was given by the IGI. However there were no other instances of BRACHFORD - and no birth record for Ellen - so I suspected that it was a transcription spelling error. I had subsequently looked for her under BRADFORD, BRACKFORD and BROCKFORD but without success. I have now found the marriage of Ellen BRACKPOOL to James PERFITT at the freeBMD website - and as her age was the same - and given the rarity of the name I am confident enough to include it within these pages. However - I will be checking birth records for place of birth for correlation. The distribution of the BRACKPOOL in the 1881 census suggests it is a Sussex name. |

so it is highly probable that Milburn Austin is a relation.
In addition to the above - Jane the eldest sister of Robert Thos. - named her eldest son Milburn Considering naming customs - it is highly probable there was a COWING/MILBURN marrage prior to 1800. Does anyone have any information. |

Moved his family from Yorkshire to Plumstead Kent between 1851 and 1853. At the time of the 1881 census all Kent COWING's were his descendants. His brother John COWING was also buried in the family grave at Plumstead in 1861 - so presumably at some point John joined Robert at Plumstead. |

It is interesting that whilst details
of her marriage can be found - while those of her birth cannot.
However there is a Mary SALVIDGE (see below) married to Thos. DENT who had a daughter Sara DENT born c.1815. It could well be that this is the same person and she took the name of Salvidge on her marriage. Of course the validity of this remains to be proven. |

I have now found name and date descrepancies leaving me doubting that I have the correct person - although the occupation of a Woolwich Arsenal labourer is correct. All documentation shows my Grandfather as being plain John MONTAGUE apart from my Grandmothers Death Certificate which shows her as the widow of Henry John MONTAGUE. Also Their Marriage Certificate shows him as being 22 years when they married on 13th March 1905 - giving a birth year of 1885. Additionally Henry John does not appear in the 1901 census. |
