The original Birth Certificate being - (C) Crown Copyright I chose a BC as a example as most people doing UK genealogy will be familiar with their overall size and print sizes - so can easily relate this to sizes of BMD index ledgers etc. Whilst there is sufficient resolution to photograph and read back a double page on a single picture - there would be difficulty in getting sufficient camera height above a document on a desk and still be able to use the LCD viewfinder. The 35 x 16.5 cm (13.75" x 6.5") certificate which was not lying completely flat - was taken in good daylight using a macro setting with camera about 40 cm (15") away. At full zoom a distance of 110 cm (43") is needed to fully frame the certificate. At 110 cm the slight barrel distortion that can be seen in this image dissappears - but the documents really need to be on the floor. Not very practical in a record office. |
