This image has been shrunk from 1600x1200 pixels to fit this page - and demonstrates the low light capability of the A40.

This picture (and that on the previous page) was the first time I had used the A40 for this type of subject - so was something of an experiment.

The picture was taken about 21:00 in January in a room having dark walls - and a single tungsten light.

original A40 image
Although picture enhancement is beyond the scope of this review - this bottom image has been included to illustrate that sufficient information is recorded by the A40 to allow enhancement without losing the integrity of the original image.

This basic enhancement was done in two stages:

  • Histogram Adjustment - to improve contrast and detail.
  • Softening - to reduce the grain present in the original subject.
- taking about 10 seconds in total.
