Design Check List

Considerations before starting to design and build your own Web Site.

Overall:

  • WHY am I doing this?

  •
  • WHO is the target audience?

  •
  • WHAT content will achieve this?

  •
  • Does the intended content FOCUS on a single subject?

  •
  • Do I have the copyright for the intended content

  • - or is the material in the public domain?

  • Will my intended content infringe on anyones privacy?
Page/Site Layout/Design
  • Does my ISP (provider) require any advertising space - and if yes

  • -where on the page and what size(s)? (all pages?)

  • Do I have or know the sizes of any images to be used? This includes logo and background images.

  •
  • What standard features will be present on each page?

  • i.e. would a standard template speed design?
NOTE: a standard layout gives your site an identity.

  • Have I mapped out how the pages will be navigated?

  • Will surfers end up going in circles?
The more you consider at the start - the less you will need to change later. Most sites start with two or three pages then grow from there.

You will probably have a number of false starts before you arrive at something you like. You will find that as your site evolves - some pages will be better divided.
